With this shot, I wanted my viewer to just imagine the grace and beauty, which once a visitor to Arlington might have seen. This was the formal drawing room of the mansion, as designated by the floor plans which are part of the historical record. It is difficult for me to describe the scope and grandeur of this room, but it measures a bit over 21' in width and 29' in length, with a ceiling elevation that I would estimate at approximately 18', with multiple layer crown molding at top of the plaster walls.

There are five of these gorgeous windows looking out into the garden, all set into elaborate Federal Style recessed framework which flood the interior space with light. With this image, I maintained the natural colors that I found there so that you could appreciate the pale pink plaster walls, the beautiful white woodwork, and the patterned crown molding.

As someone who has spent a good many years of my life doing architectural restoration, it breaks my heart to see this destruction and abandon. With the posting of these images, I hope that somehow I can shine a light on this potential loss and perhaps contribute to its salvage, for if we blink, it may be gone tomorrow.
