Description
Many visitors are well-acquainted with the more famous Bourbon Street night spots in the City, but there are many neighborhood venues giving opportunity for local musicians to perform and for the residents to hear live blues, jazz and rock music. The Sandpiper Lounge is tucked away from the crowds in mid-city New Orleans in a very modest working-class neighborhood. The night that I captured this shot, the place was hopping and the dance floor was jumping. My photographer friend and I were beckoned inside by the participants, but we declined since we were more interested in capturing the quiet mood on the street outside with a focus on this fabulous neon sign. Where else could you find this, but in the City that care forgot . . . New Orleans!
Shown in the night captured photograph is a completely deserted street, with a focus on the vintage neon sign showing a martini glass, an advertisement for music at the Sandpiper Lounge. The club is located in a vintage New Orleans building which once probably housed a shop or grocery with living quarters in the upper floor for the owners. The building probably dates from late 1800s, is constructed of cypress weatherboards with ornate brackets under the soffitt. It is located in a quiet mid-city neighborhood on Louisiana Street.

Maria, So nice of you to give me a feature of "Sandpiper" in the Photographer's Cafe Group!

Cheri, Fantastic capture of this night spot love the night time shot and the details within the exterior of the building from the awning with the small spotlight to the vibrant colored lights high above the street looking to bring people into the night club. Remarkable clarity in this photo between the details and the various colors of the signs. Great night time shot, excellent photo, voted, favorite, google, tweet and FB promoted as seen in the group, USA Artist News promo thread
Cheri Randolph replied:
John, Thanks! That was certainly a generous compliment and I sure appreciate such wonderful promotional support, too!

Neon delight at its best, Cheri! Love neon lights and this creation is awesome! Glad you could capture it! Where, may I ask, is this place located? fave and vote
Cheri Randolph replied:
Hi Randy, I'm glad that you enjoyed this one, and I appreciate you asking about the location. I usually include it in the description, but forgot this time. It is in a mid-city neighborhood in New Orleans. The evening that I shot this photograph the place was hoppin' with a jazz band and lots of people on the dance floor. Thanks for the F/V!

Well captured, so evocative the way the light diminishes downward to reality.
Cheri Randolph replied:
Gina, thanks for your nice compliment. It was an interesting discovery as another artist friend and I were exploring this neighborhood looking for photo ops.
