Description
"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." Dr. Seuss
Part of my Randolph's Nursery series, posted in tribute to my sister-in-law, Rita Randolph and her husband, Hamp McCall. They valiantly carried on with the family business in the face of changing demographics, fierce low-cost competition, freezing temperatures, tornadoes, power outages, long days and longer nights until finally closing their doors at the end of 2012, on a family business going back more than 60 years.
Randolph's Nursery was located in Jackson, Tennessee.
Shown in the photograph is a caladium plant which has succumed to freezing temperatures in an unheated greenhouse.

A very apt photo for such a sad ending to what was probably considered a family heirloom. v

Chuck, thanks for commenting & voting on this one. Yes, it was a long-established family business, which my father-in-law & mother-in-law started when he returned from the service after WWII.
Joan Carroll
such a sad story....V
Cheri Randolph replied:
Joan, thanks for commenting. It is a sad tale - the end of an era, but they are taking the, "When one door closes, another opens" attitude, and moving on to other things. Appreciate your vote on this one.
