Description
Pictured is a winding country road in the Czech Republic near the village of Tabor captured as snow was falling on a bleak January day. Walking away from our vehicle, placed me in a world of almost complete silence, with the newly fallen snow muffling most sound. Only the birdcalls were evident. A nice experience for me since snowfall is a rare thing where I live in the Southern U.S.
The experience brought to mind a poem by Christina Rosetti, one of my favorite poets, written in 1872
"In the Bleak Midwinter"
In the bleak mid-winter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter
Long ago.
This image has been processed to simulate a drawing and will be more effectively printed on a matte surface paper such as watercolor or Somerset velvet.
